Famous Love Quotes for the New Year

Famous Love Quotes - Was one of your New Years resolutions to improve your love life, or to meet someone, to fall in love all over again with your mate, or some variation of one of these? How are you coming on those, by the way? If you're finding it a challenge, don't beat yourself up too badly. Maybe you just need some inspiration from these favorite love quotes to get you back on the right track!
How many times have you heard the love quote, "I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you." It's everywhere... posters, greeting cards, wedding vows. And for good reason, as the message is beautiful and very true for many happy couples. What's less known is the history of the author, Roy Croft. Reportedly a poet who may or may not have written under a pseudonym, it has been rumored that the love quote was actually a translation of a classic German poem. The secret will never be solved, as Roy passed away in the late 20th century.
There is no secret about the life of author and scientist Albert Einstein, who showed his witty side in the wryly scientific observation, "Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love." The brilliant physicist may have then followed up this famous quote with an explanation of the science behind the onset of swooning, which indeed may involve both gravitation and a rapid change in blood pressure.

Speaking of physiological changes, another great mind of our time, Dr. Seuss, offers a popular love quote that explains the insomnia that many feel when they have finally met the person of their dreams. He quips, "When you are in love you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."
Another author with a penchant for Famous Love Quotes that are both inspiring and catchy is Mark Twain, possibly one of the most quoted Americans that ever lived. His definition of love as "the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired" is certainly a captivating conundrum. Author and philosopher Sam Keen offers his version of the flip-flop phrase with his love quote, "You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly."
Tongue twisters aside, it does seem that the mystery of love is at once clear and yet complicated, as quoted by contemporary poet and artist Michael Leunig, "Love one another and you will be happy; it is as simple and as difficult as that."
Many authors have reflected on the idea that many of us make love more complex than it needs to be, and many famous quotes support this theory. Romantic author Emily Bronte did a beautiful job of summing up the situation by admitting, "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."
Poets in the Victorian era were capable of exquisitely graceful prose, and her contemporary, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, was no exception, penning many beautiful essays inspired by her deep love for her husband, fellow author Robert Browning. Few love quotes are more romantic than her classic, "I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach." Another 19th century author, Oscar Wilde, best known for prodigious plays and edgy epigrams, was a complex thinker and no stranger to the consequences of love. The question, "Who, being loved, is poor?" was a more lyrical version of the famous musical quote, "Money can't buy you love."
Perhaps one of the most unpretentious love quotes comes from Mother Teresa, reminding us that love isn't always about romance. ''If you judge people, you have no time to love them," is a reflection of her lifetime commitment to helping the poor and afflicted, another reminder that there's always someone out there who needs a hug and a kind word. And isn't that what love is all about?
